The Great War 1914 to 1918- My Grandfather's diary entry on July 1st 1916 Fonqueville, Battle of the Somme, he wrote ' Over the top' backed up with a photograph he took- He was badly wounded and returned to England within the week- He passed away in 1972 with most of the shrapnel still in his back, as it was not possible to operate.
