Jonathan Pollock: Professional Food Photographer, Jewellery Photographer, Still Life Photographer
Photography came into my life as a teenager, being influenced by publications such as the National Geographic Magazine and work produced by Hipgnosis. This British Design Group was responsible for album covers such as those by Pink Floyd. These classics were produced with limited materials as there were only a few types of film available, whereas in contrast today there is a film for every purpose and the immense flexibility the digital age has brought us. I have always been inspired by the classic photographer namely Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Beaton, Mapplethorpe, Irving Penn and more recently Japanese photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto. My first opportunity to work as an assistant was obtained through the Association of Photographers (AOP), working for a company in Covent Garden, London. The company consisted of six photographers, some of whom have remained life long friends and associates. I established my first studio on Farringdon Road and have remained in London throughout my career. I work with a regular team which includes assistants, stylists, food stylists, model makers and printers. Over the past few years we have all enjoyed the challenge of the digital world and have had the opportunity to develop new skills and lighting techniques to support new media for example the web. |
